April is Financial Literacy Month!
Helping young people gain financial literacy is a cause very important to me. There are no state requirements for financial literacy in Colorado public schools. Thankfully, organizations like Economic Literacy Colorado exist to pick up the slack. I’ve just completed my 7th year as a Stock Market Experience mentor with Economic Literacy Colorado. This was my second year being paired with a class from Golden High School. To say I’m impressed with these kids is an understatement. These juniors and seniors are grasping complex ideas and strategies that took me years to learn. It’s also amazing to see the teachers who go out of their way, take extra time, and extend extra effort to allow their kids to participate. Mr. Irving at Golden High School is one of those teachers.
The future is bright thanks to organizations like Economic Literacy Colorado and teachers like Mr. Irving. I’m happy to play a small role.
